Virginia "Dot" Black Dowdle

Virginia "Dot" Black Dowdle, of Mt. Holly passed away at the age of 99 on Febuary 1, 2025.  She was born on October 18, 1925 to the late William Sinclair Black and Velmer Viola Aiken Black.  She is also preceded in death by her husband, William "Clane" Dowdle; her son, Ronald "Toad" Dowdle; and siblings, William Thomas Black, WC Black, Jr., Avery Tilden Black, Daniel Gray Black, Norman Debrell Black, Edgar Eugene Black, Beatrice Jane Ryan, Willie Mae Perkins, Agnus Gertrude Perkins, Annie Eugenia Luckey, and Lillian Black Greene.  Dot was a past member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Denver, NC and a past attendee of Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, Dallas, NC.  She had a true servants heart, loved others, and enjoyed taking care of others; especially her family.  She was a very loving grandmother and found great joy in spending time with her family.  Dot had a sense of humor exhibiting the simple joys of laughter.  She also enjoyed being outdoors gardening throughout her years.  

Survivors include her brother, Larry "Hunsey" Black; grandson, Michael "Mike" Dowdle and wife Jenny; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Shae, spouse Elisha and CJ Wall; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Benson Funeral Services, Mt. Holly with Pastor Sherman Branch officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow after the service at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Holly.

The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the staff and providers at Hospice for the wonderful care they took of Dot.
