Ura Lee Lewis, Jr.

Ura Lee Lewis, Jr., 90, of Gastonia passed away June 2, 2018 at Robin Johnson House in Dallas.  He was born December 8th, 1927 in Gastonia, NC to the late Ura Lee Lewis, Sr. and Edith Horsley Lewis.  He was also preceded in death by brothers, Perry, John, Frank and Richard; sisters, Helen McArver, Virginia Kegley, Catherine Edwards, and Mary Neal Black.

Lee was a retired residential home builder, building many fine homes in Gaston County. He had many hobbies. He was a great woodworker, making many fine pieces of furniture. Lee loved to garden and grow hydroponic tomatoes in the greenhouse and sharing with friends and neighbors. Lee was a lifelong member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Gastonia, NC. He served the Church as Deacon, Treasurer, and Elder. In 2014 he was honored with Elder Emeritus. He loved greeting visitors and worked hard to remember their name. Lee and Carolyn loved to travel, having seen many of the states.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn B. Lewis; daughter, Allison Johnston and husband Michael; son, Mitchell; grandchildren, Miranda McCorkle, Ryan Hovis, Blaine Lewis, Bryson Lewis; step granddaughter, Jessica Johnston; sister, Frances Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Christopher Vogado will be held Sunday, June 10th at 3PM at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 4357 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC. Receiving of friends will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church, Gastonia, NC.
