Born on December 31, 1959, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to the late Hobart Wood and Joann Henderson Wood, Thomas grew up surrounded by nature. This upbringing instilled in him a deep desire to protect our environment. After completing his education at Belmont Abbey College, he embarked on a fulfilling career as an environmental scientist with the Mecklenburg County Health Department.
Throughout his life, Thomas exemplified unwavering dedication to his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and especially adored his grandchildren. Their laughter brought immense joy to his heart. His loving wife of 40 years, Cindy Wood, stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing a bond that was truly inseparable. Together they created a home filled with love and warmth.
When Thomas wasn't busy at work or spending time with family, he sought solace in the great outdoors. Driven by his passion for fishing, he would often escape to the beach in pursuit of reeling in the big catch of the day. Boogie boarding in the ocean was another activity that brought him pure bliss. The sound of crashing waves and the feeling of freedom as he soared over them filled him with a profound sense of peace.
Golf was yet another passion that captivated Thomas's heart. He relished the challenge it presented while appreciating the tranquility of each swing. Many fond memories were forged on golf courses surrounded by friends who shared his enthusiasm for the game.
In Thomas's presence, one couldn't help but be enveloped by his genuine kindness and warm spirit. His caring nature touched countless lives, leaving an enduring impact on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. He possessed a remarkable ability to make those around him feel seen and valued, creating an atmosphere of love wherever he went.
Thomas leaves behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of his loved ones. He is survived by his adoring children, Joshua Wood and his wife Vanessa, and Jarrod Wood and his wife Christina. Their lives were enriched by the guidance, support, and unconditional love they received from their father. Thomas will also be dearly missed by his sisters, Dorothy Griffin and her husband Lynn, Kathline Hoover, and Wendy Roper and her husband Greg, as well as his brothers, Steve Wood and his wife Debbie, and Mike Wood and his wife Sheila. The bond they shared was unbreakable, filled with treasured memories that will be held close to their hearts.
Above all else, Thomas's greatest joy was becoming a grandfather. He found immense pride in watching his grandchildren grow and flourish. London, Joseph, and one more on the way brought immeasurable happiness into his life. Thomas's legacy will live on through them as they continue to carry forward the values he held dear.
