Theodore (Ted) Everett Urmanec, 72, of Mount Holly, NC, passed away on January 17, 2023, after suffering a fatal stroke.
Ted, the son of Peter and Lucille Urmanec, was born on September 19, 1950, in Peckville, PA. He grew up on the family farm near Hop Bottom, PA, where he learned to love growing vegetables and flowers and taking care of the animals. At one point, he took care of six goslings who thought he was their mother. They would follow him single file as he escorted them to their swimming hole. In his many moves over the years, if a patch of ground was available, he would plant vegetables and then share his produce with others.
Ted graduated in 1968 from Mountainview High School in Kingsley, PA. He furthered his education by earning credits at Mansfield State College and East Stroudsburg State College. When his father became ill and passed away, he returned home in order to continue the operation of the farm.
Ted is survived by his brother, Marsden Urmanec and his sister-in-law, Sally Urmanec. Also surviving are his nieces, Julie Garman and Mary Brown, as well as his great nephews, Ethan and Ryan Garman, and his great nieces, Sarah and Danielle Brown. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Karen Lloyd.
A gathering to celebrate Ted’s life will be held on a future date at the convenience of his family.
Arrangements have been handled by Benson Funeral and Cremation Services, 101 Oak Grove St, Mount Holly, NC 28120.
