Thelma Heavner Black passed peacefully in her home at 3105 Fraley Ch. Rd. on September 17, 2017. She was born in and lived in Gaston County since October 1, 1946. She was a loving soul sent down for all of us, especially those she considered family. Thelma was preceded in death by her siblings Dorothy, Jonny, Paul, Billy and Bobby, and also by a Grandson, Jeremy.
She leaves behind her siblings Joe, Jimmy, Russel, Donnie, Ed, Betty, Faye and Ruby; Grandchild, Kelly; and Great Grandchildren, Charles, Josie, and Jackson.
Thelma was as country as they come. She was a mother to more than just Ann & Joe. Jeremy will tell you about that someday. She was a talented painter and had a special gift with country crafts. She had a passion for wild-flowers and anything else she could pick or transplant. Nothing went to waste with Thelma. She has climbed thru a briar patch to keep blackberries from going to waste. She could squeeze a dime out of a nickel. Everything was canned or jarred or put in a pie which she would have to give away because she had so many. Noone ever went without if she could do anything about it. It seemed that her biggest joy was sharing with others. Thelma never held on to much for herself but always seemed to have everything she wanted. She was as pure and giving as anyone here has ever met.
Services to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 12:00 noon at South Gastonia Church of God with Revs. Bobby Gilley and Sam Barnette officiating.
