Susan Clare Sterner

Susan Clare Sterner, born on February 21, 1948, in Chicago, IL, to the late John and Charlotte Smith Petterson, passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 77, at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, NC.

A woman of profound faith and dedication, Susan had been a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1968, during which time she contributed significantly to the church, including serving missions in Raleigh, NC. Her deep commitment to her faith was an integral part of who she was and shaped her interactions with the world around her.

Susan's community involvement extended beyond her church; she volunteered at the Gaston County Animal Shelter, where her love for animals shone brightly. Her roles in the lives of others were enriched by her time as a Cub Scout Leader, guiding and nurturing the next generation. Susan had a passion for crafts, particularly needle-pointing and sewing. She found joy in the beauty of lady bugs, which became a small symbol of her vibrant personality.

Susan is survived by her son, Dean Zuberbier; daughter, Sherry Boyer; sister, Nancy Snell and husband Michael; five grandchildren; Tyler, Lexi, Toby, Matthew and Devin and one great grandson, Ralph. Nieces, Charlene Griffith and husband Dustin and Christine Church and husband Patrick; nephew, Zachary Snell and wife Ashley; ten great nieces and nephews; and many special friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Sandy Charlotte Anselmo, as well as her parents, John and Charlotte Petterson. Susan's legacy of love, devotion, and service will continue to resonate through the lives she touched, leaving an indelible mark on her family and community.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to GCACE, (Gaston County Animal Shelter, 1491 Business Park Ct., Gastonia, NC 28052 or to Carolina Caring Hospice- Robin Johnson House- 2240 Remount Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054.
