Steven R. Willis, born on May 31, 1975, in Gaston County, was a beacon of light and love, whose laughter and warmth touched all who knew him. He was the beloved son of Linda Ross Willis and the late Charles David Willis. Steven's journey came to an untimely end on November 12, 2024, at Caromont Regional Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and cherished memories.
Steven's passion for life was evident in his many roles—most notably as a dedicated volunteer firefighter for Gaston County. It was a testament to his character, reflecting his commitment to serving his community. He approached every challenge with the same bravery and tenacity he displayed while fighting fires, always putting others before himself.
Beyond his service, Steven found joy in the simple yet profound moments spent with his children: Katie Bunch (Joshua), Taylor Willis (fiance- Jake Holmes), Katelynn Willis, and Payton Willis. He cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories, especially during their visits to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, where they reveled in the thrill of Legend Car races and car shows. In addition to his children, he is also survived by the mother of his children, April Willis and also a niece, Kimberly Willis. Each moment spent together was a treasure, and his love for his family was the cornerstone of his life.
Steven took great pride in being a grandfather, doting on his precious grandchildren—Addyson Holmes, Brynlyn Holmes, and Penelope Bunch. He poured his heart into nurturing their spirits and fostering their dreams, ensuring they always felt his unwavering support and love.
In his spare time, Steven embraced a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He enjoyed fishing and delighted in collecting guns and knives, pursuits that connected him with nature and history alike. Steven's playful spirit and zest for life made him a joy to be around. He also held a special bond with his niece, Kimberly Willis, who brought him much happiness.
Steven's family tree, though filled with love, carries the weight of loss. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, as well as his brother, Scott Willis and his nephew, Christopher Willis, and uncle, PeeWee Willis. Each of these losses carved a space in Steven’s heart, reminding all who knew him of the profound impact family has on our lives.
