Steve “Red” Cope, 75, of Mt. Holly passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Cope was born in Gaston County on February 20, 1940 to the late Walter and Kathleen Cope. He was a self employed small engine repair mechanic. He was a past employee with Mt. Holly Farm Supply, helped with the development of Green Meadows Golf Club, and was past President of Mt. Holly Optimist Club. Red was an avid golfer, loved fishing and enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets. He was a devoted family man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Amelia Kelly Cope. Children, Walter Kelly Cope, Kathy Cope Mayes, Karen Cope Lockridge and Ernest Kevin Cope. Brothers and sisters, Linda Cope Jackson, Jimmy Cope and Beverly Jordan. 5 grandchildren, Stevie, Devon, Justin, Dylan, and Brittany. 4 great grandchildren, Ryder, Elayna, Aiden, and Lilli.
Memorial services to celebrate Red’s life will be at 1:00 PM Friday, February 12, 2016 at Benson Funeral Services in Mt. Holly. Visitation will follow the service. Inurnment will be private.
