Sandra "Sandy" Hicks, a beloved personality known for her vibrant spirit and culinary talents, passed away peacefully at the young age of 65, on December 1 2024, at her residence with her family by her side. Born on July 14, 1959, in Gaston County to the late Frank and Betty Allen Cobb, Sandy embraced life with a passion that was evident to all who knew her.
Sandy's career as an over-the-road long distance truck driver was marked by a sense of adventure that she welcomed wholeheartedly. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her love for her family, particularly her cherished grandchildren. She often spoke fondly of her grandchildren, expressing how they brought joy and purpose to her life.
An extraordinary cook, Sandy had a special knack for creating delicious meals that brought loved ones together around the kitchen table. which was always a gathering point for family and friends to share laughter and stories. Her favorite food she enjoyed going to eat was crab legs.
In addition to her culinary skills, Sandy found joy in the simplicity of life's pleasures. She had a deep appreciation for nature, particularly enjoying fishing and collecting turtles. Her affinity for turtles was more than just a hobby; it reflected her nurturing personality and zest for life. Sandy was also a devoted member of the Harvest Time Assembly Tabernacle of Love Church in Kings Mountain, where she formed lasting friendships and found a strong sense of faith and community.
Sandy is survived by her loving children, Toby Dennis, Ashley Poteat (Rocky), and Eric Hicks (Geraldine). She is also survived by her sisters, Vickie Williams (Roland), Peggy Bynum, and Barbie Carter (Kevin); her brother, Frank Cobb (Vivian); and her beloved grandchildren, Travis Hicks, Austin Poteat, Travis Poteat, Jasmin Poteat, Toby Dennis Jr., along with another grandson expected soon.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. Earnest E. Hicks, and a son, both of whom remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
In honor of Sandy's life, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, starting at 11:00 AM at the Harvest Time Assembly Tabernacle of Love in Kings Mountain, NC. This event will be a testament to the joy and warmth she spread to those around her. Burial will immediately follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Holly. Additionally, a visitation will take place the evening prior on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location, allowing friends and family to come together to remember and honor a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church, Harvest Time Assembly Tabernacle of Love, 904 2nd St., Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
Sandy’s legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
