Roxie Landers Rector, age 96, a beloved spirit who graced the world with her warmth, passed away on November 16, 2024, at her cherished residence. Born on February 19, 1928, Madison County, North Carolina, Roxie was a daughter to the late Milton and Tempa Shelton Landers, who instilled in her the values of hard work and compassion. During a fulfilling career, Roxie dedicated many years of her life to esteemed companies such as J.P. Stevens, Andrex Co., and Westinghouse. Yet, her heart found joy and solace in the role of homemaker, where she nurtured her home with love and devotion while enjoying some of her favorite hobbies of spinning and kitting. This duality of working life and home life defined her, as she seamlessly wove together the threads of commitment to family and professional endeavors.
Roxie's spirit was one that thrived in the beauty of the world around her. She possessed a profound love for travel, eagerly exploring new landscapes and experiences that enriched her life and broadened her horizons. Equally, she found delight in rituals of tending to her yard, where she would often be found working diligently. Her green thumbs transformed her outdoor spaces into sanctuaries of peace and beauty. Among the gentle creatures of her yard, her love for cats always shone through; they were, perhaps, reflections of her free spirit, affectionate and curious.
As we remember Roxie, her legacy encompasses not just the memories made but the many lives she touched—especially those of her caregivers, Madeline Bledsoe and Crystal McCoig, whose unwavering support resonated deeply with her. Roxie also leaves behind a tapestry of family: numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom carry a piece of her love and history within them.
Roxie is reunited in spirit with her late husband, Tom Rector, and is preceded in death by her two brothers; one sister; and her great nephew, Robert Landers. Their memories flicker like candles, casting a warm light on the stories shared, binding her family and friendships in eternal love.
Friends and family are encouraged to gather in remembrance, as there will be a visitation at Benson Funeral & Cremation in Mt. Holly on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, allowing us all a moment to honor the remarkable life of Roxie Landers Rector. Interment will immediately follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Holly. Though she walks now the streets of gold, her spirit will forever bloom in the hearts of the ones she cherished and loved so dearly.
