Richard Allan Stewart, age 76, a devoted family man, passed away on January 19, 2024, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. He was born on August 17, 1947, in Travelers Rest, SC to the late John Paul Stewart and Elizabeth Waters Stewart. Richard was preceded in death by his sisters, Sherry and Karen, and his brother, Donnie.
Richard's love for his family was one of his proudest accomplishments in life. He cherished his children and grandchildren deeply. His legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on through their lives.
He had a passion for the mountains and enjoyed spending time amidst nature's splendor. He found great joy in supporting his favorite sports teams as an avid Carolina Panther football fan and a dedicated Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
Another one of Richard's true passions was gospel music, particularly the Gaithers. He appreciated the uplifting melodies that filled his heart with peace and joy. His love for gospel music reflected his unwavering faith and strong spiritual values.
Richard will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He leaves behind a loving wife of 40 years, Terry F. Stewart, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Their unwavering commitment to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them.
In addition to his wife Terry, Richard is survived by his children, Timothy Stewart (Beth), Kathy Segars, and Joshua Stewart (Ashley). Their memories of their father will bring them comfort during this difficult time.
He also leaves behind two caring sisters, Treda Higgins (Wayne) and Shelly Morosco and a special sister-in-law, Sandra Dacus. Richard's siblings were an essential part of his life, providing him with companionship, support, and shared memories that will never be forgotten.
Richard was blessed with six adoring grandchildren, Brittany, Raylyn, Bella, Azalee, Steven, and Brandon. Their presence brought immense joy into his life, and he shared countless special moments with each of them.
His legacy extended to his four great-grandchildren, Carson, Brooklyn, Delany, and Avery. Richard delighted in their laughter and innocence, cherishing every moment he spent with them.
Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. Richard's caring nature touched the lives of many extended family members as he shared his wisdom and kindness with all those around him.
A visitation service to honor Richard Allan Stewart will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow immediately at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Holly. All friends and family are welcome to come together to celebrate Richard's life and share precious memories.
Richard Allan Stewart's departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the memories he created will continue to bring comfort to those who loved him. May we find solace in the knowledge that his spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
