Mt. Holly, NC

Pauline “Polly” Eury, born on November 29, 1946, in Cherokee, NC, passed away peacefully on August 18 2024, at the Robin Johnson House. She was a cherished soul, whose radiant spirit and warmth touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Polly was loved by everyone and never met a stranger; her kindness and understanding lit up the hearts of those around her.

Polly led her life with an innate sense of positivity and devotion to her family, taking the time to appreciate every interaction she had. Her love was ever-present, and she poured her heart into everything she did, from her hobbies to the countless memories created with her family. Polly found joy in completing puzzles, watching classic westerns, listening to  country music, and cooking delicious meals for her loved ones. However, her greatest joy was reserved for the time spent with her siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom meant the world to her. Anyone who knew her affectionately referred to her as Mamaw, and she embraced this title, fulfilling the role with immeasurable love and care. She was, without a doubt, the best Mamaw anyone could have ever wished for.

Polly is survived by her beloved children, Scott Curtis, Shawn Curtis, and Dee Curtis. She cherished each moment spent with her grandchildren: Donavon, Andrew, Madison, Robert, Abbie, Kelsey, and Colbey Curtis, who will forever carry her memory with them. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Ann Curtis and Vickie Keever, who shared countless memories and experiences with her that will last eternally.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Gilbert and Lenore Whitaker Gilbert, and her siblings, Larry, Jimmy, Surry, and Steve Gilbert. Though they are no longer with us, the bonds of love that Polly fostered ensure that her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

As we remember Polly, let us honor her legacy of kindness, her ability to connect with people, and the immense love she shared throughout her life. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as we carry her lessons of positivity and devotion forward in our own lives.
