Cherryville

Norman Phillip Waites, 67, born on November 29, 1956, in Fulton County, Georgia, to the late George William Waites, Sr. and Emma Sue Churchill Cash, passed away on January 14, 2024 at his residence in Cherryville. He was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Norman's career was centered around his passion for mechanics. He dedicated his time and skills as an auto mechanic at ATS, where he installed and test-drove vehicles. His mechanical inclination extended beyond his profession as he was often found tinkering with household items and small motors.

He successfully graduated from Bessemer City High School, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors.

His personality was defined by a genuine love for music and the outdoors. Norman found solace in old hymnals and enjoyed listening to county-gospel groups like the Gaither Family. Additionally, he had a deep appreciation for nature and traveling, constantly seeking new sights to explore. Fond memories of his youth spent fishing with a simple cane pole always brought a smile to his face.

An animal lover at heart, Norman formed close bonds with two cats who frequently visited him for a scratch on the head. This gentle connection reflected his compassionate nature towards others.

Those who knew him well understood his enthusiasm for WWE wrestling. Whether it was watching old matches or witnessing new wrestlers perform their feats of strength on television, Norman's excitement shone through. His passion for this sport brought joy into his life.

Norman Phillip Waites is survived by his  brother, George William Waites Jr., residing in Bessemer City. He is also survived by his nephew Jay Travis Waites (Jessica Ann) from Bessemer City.

Extended family members mourning this loss include Leon Revis, Jeff Revis (Cindy), Terry Revis (Kristi), Chris Revis (Kathy), Amanda Revis Carden (Chris), and Teresa Revis Balzer (Gregory).

Norman's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. His dedication to his profession, love for music, nature, and his affectionate bond with animals will remain in their hearts.  A special thanks to Leon Revis who befriended Norman many years ago through ATS.  Their friendship lasted for over a decade.  Many times, Norman commented that "the Revis family had done more for him than anyone he knew."  Norman wasn't just a friend, but he became family.

May Norman Phillip Waites rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that touched the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
