Noel Clifton Runyan, of Mt. Holly, passed away on December 29, 2024 at the age of 96. He was born in Charlotte, NC on December 11, 1928 to the late Thomas Purvis Runyan and Nelle Weaver Runyan. He was preceded in death by one brother, Purvis Wean Runyan.

Noel served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Combat Engineers during the '50s 'Korean Conflict'. After graduating in 1946 from old Harding High School in Charlotte, NC, he spent 33 years in Florida in the banking community. When he left the industry, he was General Auditor for Century Banks.
For 20 plus years, his primary interest was to keep Harding graduates in touch with one another by publishing the quarterly '46ers & Friends' THE Newsletter, and for helping maintain annual HHS reunions at North Myrtle Beach. In 2001, Noel was instrumental in establishing the '46ers & Friends' James R. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship at Appalachian State University. Scholarships to be awarded yearly to a current graduate from Harding High School.
Noel was also an avid reader in his spare time and he dearly loved singing in the church choir.
Services will be held privately by the family. Noel requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the James R. Hawkins Scholarship Fund, c/o ASU Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 32007, Boone, NC 28608.
