Martha Carpenter Loftin, a housewife and devoted educator with a heart full of love for children, passed away on July 8, 2024 at the age of 86, at the Cranberry House in Newland, NC. She was born in Newland, NC on December 6, 1937, to the late Arbie and Frances Carpenter.
Among Martha's proudest accomplishments was her unwavering love for her family. She is survived by her cherished husband of 38 years, Clarence L. Loftin, Jr. She is also survived by her daughter, Robyn Wooten Shipes; and son, Paul Dean Wooten Jr. (Connie). Martha found great joy in the presence of her grandchildren, Ronald Dale Shipes Jr., Daniel Shipes, and Anna Wooten. She also leaves behind her beloved fur babies that she loved more than anyone, Shasha and Saddie. She is survived by her sisters, Nellie Mae Fisher, Mary Moody, Lucy Ledford; and brother, Roby Carpenter. Martha was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Pepper and brothers, Ray Carpenter and Roy Carpenter.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Martha found solace and joy in singing hymns at church. Her melodic voice resonated with those around her, uplifting spirits and spreading warmth wherever she went.
Martha's passion for shaping young minds led her to a fulfilling her career where she made a difference in the lives of many. Her journey included stints where she taught Kiddie Korner Day Schools in Charlotte and also as a teacher at Crossnore Child Development Center in Crossnore. Martha's dedication and kindness towards children left an indelible mark on all those she touched.
In honoring Martha Carpenter Loftin's life, we remember a woman of grace, compassion, and unwavering love for both her family and the countless children whose lives she touched with tenderness and care. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy of kindness lives on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
