Karen Benton Derrick, a remarkable woman whose heart beat with love for her family, passed away on March 3, 2025, surrounded by her cherished family as she entered the gates of heaven to meet her Lord and Savior. Born on January 28, 1958, in Union County to the late Elmer Curtis Benton and Margaret E. Mullis, Karen's life was a tapestry woven with kindness, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family.
Throughout her life, Karen's spirit radiated warmth. She was a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother, finding joy in the laughter of her nine grandchildren: Katlynn, Allie, Aiden, Noel, Kylee, Corbin, Harper, Little David, and Adam. Her dedication to her family was unparalleled, and every moment spent with them was a precious gem she treasured dearly.
Karen's passions were as vibrant as her personality. She found solace at the beach, where the gentle lapping of waves resonated with her soul, and reveled in the majestic beauty of the mountains during their scenic months. The simple pleasures brought her the greatest joy, whether she was in tune with the soulful notes of Elvis or the heartfelt lyrics of Alan Jackson, or simply enjoying the company of her beloved pet dachshund, Colt.
Though her presence will be sorely missed, Karen leaves behind a devoted family that includes her sons, Rodney Jones and his wife Sheree, and Charles "Chuck" Derrick and his wife Heather; her daughter, Keri Williams and her husband Cody; and her sisters, Deannie Carter and her husband Dean and Debbie Gentry. They will carry her memory with them, nurturing the legacy of love she imparted.
The shadow of sorrow is cast over those she left behind, as she is preceded in death by her husband, David Derrick; her son, Patrick Derrick; her brother, Kenneth Benton; her sisters, Kay Furr and Phyllis Underwood; and her grandson, Hayden Jones. Each of these departed loved ones holds a cherished place in her heart, now reunited with Karen in the everlasting embrace of eternity.
