Joyce “Joy” Delight Calcagno, 91, of Gastonia, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Healthcare. She was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on April 4, 1929. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, James Calcagno and Christine Calcagno. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Gastonia. Joy loved playing cards with the “Golden Girls” at McDonald’s. They would meet weekly, discuss their activities from the past week, share a meal, and play cards, although her favorite food was cheddar bay biscuits from Red Lobster. She also enjoyed antique shopping and dreamed about, one day, visiting Vegas. Joy also enjoyed working with the Blind Society of North Carolina. She was a strong, independent, and hard-working woman, who loved life. She was a dear friend to all who knew her and she will be missed dearly, forever.
Joy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Fran Calcagno of New York; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nephew; and extended family of fifty years, Mae, Cyndee, and Terry.
A Catholic prayer service will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services of Mount Holly, with Father Lucas Rossi officiating.
