Joyce Mitchem

Joyce Long Mitchem, 79, of Gastonia, passed away on December 3, 2016 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. Ms. Mitchem was born in Gaston County on June 30, 1937 to the late Reany Long and Vesta Mace Long. She is also preceded in death by her husband Jerry Marshall Mitchem, infant daughter Diane Mitchem and a son Jeff Mitchem. Ms. Mitchem was a longtime member at East Garrison Baptist Church and was retired from the school system. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, loved dancing, the beach and flowers. Survivors include her children, Danny Mitchem and wife Robin of Charlotte, Sherry Mitchem and husband Bobby of Gastonia and Kelly Mitchem and wife Vicki of Rutherfordton, NC. 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a special friend, Jim King. Funeral Services to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday December 6 at East Garrison Baptist Church in Gastonia with Reverend Charles Ledford officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.
