Joshua Alan Hicks, 20, of Stanley passed away March 3, 2021 in Nashville, TN. He was born in Gaston County on July 27, 2000 and is preceded in death by his grandmother, Judy Hicks; uncle, Timmy Wilson; and sister, Alyssa Jade. Joshua graduated from East Gaston High School where he was given the nickname “Shamu” and was also enrolled as a ROTC member. He loved basketball and music; especially the two bands Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. Joshua struggled for some time and would never want to be remembered for his addiction. He would want everyone to know how hard he was trying to overcome in hopes to help someone else in his same shoes. But most of all, he would want to be remembered by how much he loved his family and his family loved him. He had a big heart and cared for others in a big way.
Joshua is survived by his father, Eric Hicks and wife Dana; mother, Christy Davis; siblings, Gracie Hicks, Zayne Davis, Brianna Goodson, and Kaitlynn Goodson; grandparents, James Hicks, John and Evelyn Steen, Tim and Lisa Wilson, Linda Willocks, and Reggie and Jane Warren; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church, 113 E. Parkwood St., Stanley, NC 28164, with Pastor Eric Chaney officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m – 2:00 p.m.
