Joel Laverne Spurling

Joel Laverne Spurling, 65, of Iron Station, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019. He was born in Gaston County on October 15, 1953, the son of the late Roy Spurling and Rebecca Rollins Spurling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sue Keever Spurling, and a brother, David Spurling. Joel was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Alexis. He was a very loving family man, wonderful husband and best friend to his wife, who will always remember his beautiful blue eyes, and a wonderful grandfather and brother. Joel was a good Samaritan who would give you the shirt of his back and was very loved by all who knew him. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed music. 

Joel is survived by his wife, Kimberly Spurling; children, Karen McFalls and fiance Bobby Leopard, Kathy Spurling and fiance David Rambo, and Nathaniel Dickson; brother and sister-in-law, Roy E.and Nelta Spurling; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosie and Bill Jory, Janet and Nelson Cope, Anna and Jonathan Peppard, Mary and John Azzaralli; sister-in-law, Sheba Spurling; grandchildren, Joel Leopard, Alan Leopard, Zachery Bell, Chris Bell; great grandchildren, Delilah Ann Lipsord Bell, Gabriel Labritt Bell; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2151 Mt. Zion Church Road, Alexis, NC 28006.

A memorial service will be held after the visitation at 6:00 P.M. with the Rev. Joel Collette officiating.
