James Ervin Tolar

Mr. James Ervin Tolar, age 85, of Gastonia, NC, formerly of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Born in North Carolina, Mr. Tolar was the son of the late Edgar and Katie Tolar. A member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, Mr. Tolar was a proud Korean War Veteran who served in the US Navy. He worked for Kraft foods, retiring after 36 years. Mr. Tolar loved golf and square dancing. He was a member of the Sand Dollars Square Dance Club of Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand Strutters of Myrtle Beach. Mr. Tolar is predeceased by his first wife of 46 years, Margaret Gilliam Tolar and his three sisters, Lois Altman, Barbara Smith and Joyce Goude.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Carolyn E. Tolar, Gastonia, NC; children, Robert (Natica) Tolar, Anderson; Teresa (Joe) Peed, Sunset Beach, NC; Donna (Todd) Wincek, Dacula, GA; step children, Becky (Hal) Fuller, Charlotte, NC; Connie Newburg, Gastonia, NC; Joan (Ricky) Wilcox, Belmont, NC; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 20, 2015 at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Ocean Woods Cemetery.
