James E. Pittman

James E. Pittman, 91, of Stanley passed away June 9, 2023 at the Robin Johnson House. He was born on August 1, 1931 in Mitchell County, NC to the late Coleman and Rhoda Pittman. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Jess, Jay, Johnny and Joe and sisters, Nora, Cora Lee and Lucy. James recently became a member at Amazing Grace Baptist Church and was a longtime member at Unity Baptist Church in Belmont where he was a past deacon. He also loved to sing and was known as a man of prayer. James enjoyed the mountains and the Outer Banks, where he loved fishing and eating his catch. He always enjoyed gardening and was proud of his tomato plants.

Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Sandra J. Pittman; his children, Sherrie Sigmon and husband Billy Ray, Mike Pittman and wife Renee, Becky Self and husband Mike; sister, Faye Howell and husband Pat; numerous nieces and nephews which he called daily. Grandchildren, Lisa Stewart, Heather Stewart, Matt McCuen, Shawn Pittman (Ashley), Shannon Thomas and (Josh), Brittany George, (Tommy). 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral Services to celebrate James life will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church, Belmont with Reverends Mike Pittman and Joe Lawing officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately at Amazing Grace Baptist Church Cemetery in Stanley, NC.
