James L. "Jim" Byrd

James L. "Jim" Byrd, 85 of Gastonia passed away April 4, 2015 at the VA State Nursing Home in Salisbury. Mr. Byrd was born in Gaston County on November 9, 1929 to the late Leonard and Lola Smith Byrd. He was a textile supervisor with Ticaro, Inc. and retired after 50 years of service, a US Army Veteran and attended Living Hope Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Edith Mulkey Byrd, 2 sons Bobby Lee and Michael James Byrd and also 2 brothers Raymond and Richard Byrd.

Survivors include his son Steven Lynn Byrd and nieces Georgia Speight, Patricia Abee and nephew Ronald Campbell.

Funeral services to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 2:00 Friday April 10 at Living Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Gardner and Dr. David Gardner officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Gaston Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
