Harry L. Burgess, Jr., 80, of Monroe, N.C. formerly of Barboursville, W.V. passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at the McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe. Harry was born on September 15, 1936 to the late Harry and Maude Brumfield Burgess. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judith Black.
Harry played high school football for Barboursville High School where the team won the State Championship in 1954. He loved the mountains. He was also the former owner of Snack Shack and Country Squire Restaurant.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Vi Vance Burgess; Children, Jeffrey Burgess and wife Nicki of Barboursville, W.V., Amy Burgess Moser of Charleston, S.C., Christopher Burgess of Indian Trail, N.C., and Michael Freeman and wife Tiffany of Hickory, N.C.; Sisters, Connie Kelley of CT. and Susie Tracey of FL.; 7 Grandchildren, Josh, Dylan, Reagan, Allyson, Ryan, Tyler, and Tristan; and 1 Great-Grandchild, Zander.
Services to celebrate Harry's life will be held Saturday, October 14th at 12:00 PM at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, US Route 60, Midland Trail, Barboursville, WV 25504. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
