Faye Smith Wood

August 23, 1942 — November 13, 2024

Mt. Holly, NC

Faye Smith Wood, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on November 13, 2024, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 23, 1942, in Lenoir, NC, to the late Fred and Agnes Walker Smith, who instilled in her a kindness and warmth that she carried throughout her life.

Faye was a woman of many talents, but perhaps no skill was more cherished than her gift for cooking. Known for her delicious culinary creations, she brought joy to gatherings with her famous banana pudding and cherry yum yum, alongside a treasure trove of old-fashioned recipes that delighted family and friends alike. Her kitchen was always filled with laughter and love, symbolizing the heart of her home.

Faye's passions extended beyond cooking; she found immense joy in the beauty of Myrtle Beach, often retreating there to soak in the sun and serenity. She also enjoyed fishing and she cherished those quiet moments by the water, where she could reflect and find peace in nature's embrace.

Faye leaves behind a rich tapestry of love, woven through her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Johnny Wood, whose companionship she treasured. Her children, Jerry Ballard (Annette), Donna Soles (Gary), and Wanda Ballard, carry forward the legacy of love she imparted. Faye's spirit shines brightly in her grandchildren: Richard Gardner, Jody Ballard, Gary Soles Jr., Ashley Soles, Jeremy Ballard, Brittany Ballard, Bridgette Ballard, and Brianna Mobley. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she derived boundless joy from their achievements and milestones.

Faye also doted on her great-grandchildren, Christian Gardner, Jenna Gardner, Connor Cherry, Autumn Cherry, Jordyn Doster, Waylon Duran, and Emerlyne McCrorey, whose laughter and energy were her greatest delights. Her love for family was immeasurable and will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she cherished. She is also survived by sisters Freddie Rupp and Sarah Davis.

In addition to her parents, Faye is preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Gail Fore and Sharon Roberts, and her brother, Tommy Smith. Their memories are forever etched in the lives of those who remain, and their bonds continue to guide and inspire the family.

As we gather to celebrate Faye's life, we remember a woman who embodied grace, strength, and unwavering love. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, in Mt.
