Debra Icenhour English, beloved wife, mother, and Memaw, passed away on July 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 25, 1955, in Hickory, NC to the late David Leo Icenhour and Dorothy Smith Icenhour.
Debra touched the lives of many as a Licensed Practical Nurse since 1984, dedicating herself to caring for others. Her compassionate nature and nurturing spirit shone brightly in all aspects of her life. She worked at various centers including the Brian Center Hickory East, Brian Center Viewmont, and Trinity Ridge Nursing.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Debra was known for her love of shopping and exploring the mountains with her husband Dwight on their ATV. She found joy in simple pleasures like dining out and going on spontaneous car rides for the sheer enjoyment of it. Her adventurous spirit and zest for life were truly inspirational.
Debra was proceeded in death by her Parents David and Dorothy Icenhour, her father and mother in law David Grady and Mary Grace English, brothers David, Alferd,and Jake Icenhour.
Debra leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Dwight English; daughters Samantha English Greene (Scott), Heather English (Tommy), Kelly Barlow (Jason); grandchildren Kaitlyn Greene(Jon), Ethan English (Samantha), Jadin Kelley ( Brailye), Caleb Springsteen, Gracie Sexton (Cameron), Riley Greene (Sophie), Karly Barlow (Will), and Jaracah Teague; great-grandchildren Everleigh and Brixton Kelley, Sterling English (due in August), and Rowan Sexton (due in January). She is also survived by her sister Donna Lane and brother Franklin Icenhour (Tracy).
Debra's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, NC. The family will have a private graveside service following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Debra's honor to Carolina Caring Hospice. Debra's presence will be deeply missed but her spirit will continue to guide and comfort those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace alongside her favorite fur baby Tank whom she cherished dearly.The family would also like to express gratitude to The Greens of Viewmont.
