Clarence Leroy Loftin Jr., of Newland, NC and a native of Mt. Holly, NC, was born on February 10, 1934, in Mecklenburg County, a beloved son of the late Clarence Leroy Loftin Sr. and Isabella Elena Carnes Loftin. He gracefully embarked on his final journey on April 8, 2025, at the Stanley Total Living Center, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering faith.
A dedicated maintenance technician at Crossnore Child Care Development Center in Crossnore, Clarence exemplified what it meant to be a workaholic. His commitment to his job was matched only by his compassion for others. He was a sanctuary for animals—dogs, cats, and even a wild bear found comfort in his affection and care. Clarence’s love for all creatures spoke to the depths of his kind heart; he extended his nurturing spirit to every living being who crossed his path.
Clarence was not just an animal lover but a believer in Jesus, demonstrating a strong faith in God that served as the foundation for his life. His rich spirituality was a guiding light for many and an anchor through life’s storms.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Clarence will remember him as a gentle soul who cherished the mountains, where he found solace and joy. His laughter and wisdom will echo in the memories he leaves behind.
Surviving Clarence are his children, Angel L. Thomas (Larry) of Belmont, NC, Carolyn L. McAbee of Crouse, NC, Karen L. Carter of Kings Mountain, NC, and Cynthia L. Young of Gastonia, NC. He is also survived by his step-children, Robyn Wooten Shipes of Mt. Holly, NC, and Paul Dean Wooten Jr. (Connie) of Mt. Holly, NC; his cherished sisters, Le Jean L. Barker Wyatt of Mt. Holly, NC, and Margaret L. Thomasson Rankin of Stanley, NC; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a special friend, Henry L. Beck who will carry on his spirit of kindness.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Martha Carpenter Loftin; his son, Clarence Leroy Loftin III; sister, Vertie Loftin Cox; brothers, James Loftin and Don Loftin; and granddaughter, Shanna Mullins.
Clarence Leroy Loftin Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, faith, and compassion will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. May his soul rest in peace, embraced by the mountains he adored and the animals he cherished.
