Christian “Olivene” Lathan, 98, of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, surrounded by her family at her residence. She was born in Mecklenburg County, the daughter of the late Thomas Andrew Rozzelle and Blonnie Yarbourgh Rozzelle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Samuel Lathan, Sr. Olivene was a lifelong member of Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church. She worked as a beautician and was a driver for Avis. Olivene loved her children, loved to make people laugh, and loved to help others, especially her senior friends. She enjoyed cooking, canning, quilting, fishing, and sewing, especially making beautiful clothing. She was fond of the outdoors and the mountains. She was known as the “Candy Lady” because she always carried and gave away candy to everyone she met. Olivene is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and David Houston, Sandy and Tommy Leatherman; son, Sam Lathan, Jr.; sister, Bobbie Stillwell; sister-in-law, Amelia Killian; foster daughter, Debbie Cabe; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and close friend, Mammie Cole.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018, 1:00 P.M. at Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mt.Holly-Huntersville Road, Charlotte, NC 28216. A visitation will follow the service.
