Charles "Charlie" Ernest Penley

Charles "Charlie" Ernest Penley, 67, of Gastonia passed away November 19, 2018 at his residence.  He was born on February 24, 1951 to the late Ernest and Wilhelmina Ray Penley.  He is also preceded in death by a sister, Fay O'Donahue.  Charlie enjoyed the outdoors, especially the mountains.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed doing yardwork, and bird watching. Charlie was a 1963 member of the Little League State Champions and was inducted into the Belmont Sports Hall of Fame. Most of all, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his loving family and all of his dear fishing friends who will all miss him.  The family would like to say a special thanks to all of his fishing buddies that spent so much time with him through friendship over the years.

Charlie is survived by his children, Mechelle Hyde and husband Billy, Sherry Penley, Jason Penley, Jessica Harris and husband Adam, and Bruce Hyde; sister, Linda Scovern and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Brandon, Aaron, Sierra, Huntter, Kyra, Gabriella, Tristin, Grant, and Kaitlyn.

A Memorial service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly with Rev. Raymond Byrd officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
