Billy Joe McKenzie

Billy Joe McKenzie, 78, of Catawba Heights passed away March 9, 2014 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. Mr. McKenzie was born January 12, 1936 in Gaston County to the late Barney Ray and Ethel Young McKenzie. He was preceded in death by a brother Homer Ray McKenzie. He was a member of Life of Faith Fellowship Church and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Rebecca McKenzie. Children; Jerry McKenzie (Harriet), Carol McKenzie, Billy McKenzie (Becki), Rhonda Cherry (Noel), Connie Fox (Dan), Todd Altman (Kim) and Crystal Kirkland (John). 16 grandchildren: Joshua, Lillian, Katherine, Craig, Taylor Rae, Casey, Robert, Noel, Chloe, Seth, Sarah, Daniel, Matthew, Kayla, Taylor, Brandon, Kody and also 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services to celebrate Mr. McKenzie's life will be at 11:00AM Wednesday March 12 at Benson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Glover officiating. Interment will follow in Gilead ARP Church Cemetery in Huntersville, NC. Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00PM Tuesday also at the Funeral Home.
