Amelia "MiMi" Cope

May 26, 1939 — March 8, 2016

Amelia “MiMi” Cope, 76, of Mt. Holly passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Ms. Cope was born in Gaston County on May 26, 1939 to the late E.D. Kelly II and Myrtle Clark Kelly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Steve “Red” Cope on Feb. 9 of this year and also a sister Lynn Ferguson. Ms. Cope, better known as “MiMi", was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Holly where she attended as a child. She loved children and was a day care worker for years at Tiny Tot’s and Fun Times Day Care Centers before retiring. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Walter Kelly Cope, Kathy Cope Mayes, Karen Cope Lockridge and Ernest Kevin Cope. Brother E.D. Kelly III and 5 grandchildren, Stevie, Devon, Justin, Dylan and Brittany.  4 great grandchildren, Ryder, Elayna, Aiden and Lilli.

Memorial Services to celebrate MiMi’s life will be held at 4:00 PM Friday March 11, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 140 North Main St., Mt. Holly with Reverend Angela Pleasants officiating. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will follow the service, also at the church.

In Lieu of Flowers, Contributions may be made to the family to offset the loss of both parents to Benson Funeral Services, 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120.
